Turtle Islands actually consists of 10 islands but 7 belongs to the Philippines while the other 3 that belong to Malaysia are Selingan, Bakungan Kecil and Gulisan islands. The turtle conservation program in Sabah, especially this island is the oldest in the world.
The park is a safe haven for the endangered green and hawksbill turtles and gives you the rare opportunity to watch turtle landings. Selingan, the largest of the islands, houses the park’s headquarters, a turtle hatchery, tourist accommodation and basic facilities. The other two islands are more for conservation activities. Turtle Island is located 40km away from Sandakan mainland and boat is the only way to get there. However, Selingan is the only island that can be visited by tourist and it has few types of accommodation for you to stay to catch your turtle sighting lying their eggs, collecting eggs and most of all, releasing baby turtle to the water.
